Halloween Party

We went to a Halloween party on Saturday night. There was a stipulation that you had to go into costume. So the 4 of us obliged.

K chose an outfit that had lights in it! I mean what self respecting 6 year old girl wouldn't want to dress as a Princess with a dress that requires a battery pack?!

Z opted for a Ninja outfit as he got to use his Pirate sword that we got when we were in Florida over the summer.

I wanted to be comfortable and not show too much skin so I chose a prisoner outfit complete with ball and chain.

Ben was going to go as the Devil but changed his mind when his goatee beard growing did not meet expectations. In the end he opted to be Death. I am pleased he didn't glue anything to his forehead like he had said he was going to. However, he did managed to use ALL of the makeup remover that I had!

In the afternoon before we went to the party, I took the kids to a local cupcake store to get a free cupcake each. Holy Cow Cupcakes had said that any kid aged 12 or under who went to the store in costume, got a free cuppie!

In the evening we got our costumes on and piled in the car and headed to the party complete with my finger cookies and brain jello. We had a great time. Ian, who hosted the party with his lovely wife Lesley, is a professional photographer and he took pictures of everyone in their costumes. (The pictures may say copyright to me but they are actually Ian's work. I just have that copyright mark on all my photos now as a way to stop people pinching them) There was a costume contest and everyone voted for their favorite and Ben won! He never wins anything and was very happy! Some of the costumes people wore were absolutely fabulous!

On Monday we are taking the kids trick or treating. Yay, more candy!

Scholastic Book Fair

My kids went to Donuts with Dad and the Scholastic Book Fair at their school this morning. They had $100 to spend as their dad was the highest bidder in a silent auction for a book voucher.

This is what they spent it on. In total we spent $99.84 of the $100.

New Toy

My phone has been playing up for a while. It had a good run I suppose. I had it for almost 2 years and pretty much used it to death. It was time for an upgrade and the contract expired also. So, Ben took over the contract as his boss was paying for the phones. On Wednesday he went to Verizon with his boss and got us new phones. He has the Revolution by LG as he likes the Android platform. I got the iPhone4S. I have spent the last little while playing with it and getting used to the phone and what it can do. I have set up iCloud and as a result have yet another email address. I have added a few games for the kids as they will no doubt play with it. I have been asking Siri all sorts of questions and some of the answers have been very amusing. I am now trying to find a decent turn by turn sat nav app for it.

Technology is amazing and I can only imagine what Z & K will have access to when they are my age! If my grandparents saw the phones/computers/3D movies etc that are around now they would be astounded!

Visit to Nashville, Indiana

We made our 2nd visit to Nashville, Indiana this weekend. We went last year and enjoyed the scenery so decided to go again yesterday.

It was a glorious sunny day so we headed south equipped with camera and a little bag of snacks. We did plan on eating out whilst there too though but it is always handy to have snacks on hand, especially with my kids!

On the way there and back we went past dozens and dozens of bikers. Ben commented on the fact it was a good day for a ride and that he would like to be able to ride a motorcycle. He is planning on learning soon as one of the things on his 'list' is that he wants to ride a Harley through Monument Valley. On the way home we saw a huge group of bikers who were on a charity ride to raise awareness of teen violence.

I know we have not hit the peak of Fall foliage colors yet but it was a nice day out and we got some good pictures and the kids had a great time.

They had local grown corn and some ice cream from Ferrin's Ice Cream  & Yogurt Depot like they did last year. The kids also went and sat on the stairs outside like they did last year. Z did ask on the way there if we were going to go to Nashville every year to look at trees and I said it was only our 2nd trip there but I couldn't say for sure what we would do next year. (We may not be here next October as our visas expire in September 2012)

We found the spot where we took a picture of the kids last year when they were sitting on a hay bale. By a bizarre coincidence Z was wearing the same t-shirt as he wore last time.

It is nice to see the colors of the trees change. If you had told me when I was a kid that I would be willing to drive for an hour or so to look at trees changing color I would have laughed in your face! However, I do enjoy these trips and I love the colors that some of the trees. Some trees turn from green to such a bright red color that I find it impossible not to like it.

Here is a couple shots of the last big group of bikers we saw on the way home from Nashville.

Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday we went to the Pumpkin Patch at IU Health North Hospital. (This is the hospital K goes to for her check ups on her kidney)

The kids got a pumpkin each and we all got a hot dog, drink, packet of chips and a piece of pumpkin bread. K & Z also got a new Indianapolis Colts poster as well as a prize from the Indiana Pacers after spinning a game wheel. K & Z also went in a LifeLine helicopter with their dad.

Z & K also got up close to some alpacas. They felt their fur and held on to their guide ropes.

We spent about 2 hours there and then drove down to Rivers Edge shops and I got to go in the new Container Store that opened that day. As I am a little ocd about some stuff, it was a fabulous store but a little crowded. It did seem as if there were people expecting it to not be open again so they had to get there on Saturday!

Sometimes I just love surprises. This is one that I got today. Huge thanks to my lovely brother and sister in law (and her mum) for getting us it.

14 year olds & Green Cards

Did you know that you need to get a new green card when you turn 14? Do you know the reason why? No really, I'd like to know why. ...
